Mending {What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #345}

This week I've been spending some time (and some considerable effort) sorting through my wardrobe, setting aside clothes and accessories (like belts, bags, shoes and jewellery) to clean, alter or mend.

I set up my lovely, little sewing machine ready for some simple mends to hems, pockets and seams and have now added five or six items of clothing back into my wardrobe. It feels amazing to have them wearable again!

Then, simply because I needed a little change of scenery, I took all of my belts (and I mean *all*, I adore belts) down to my living room to add in some additional holes. For several reasons, this was so satisfying!

Firstly, I love nothing more than making/mending and eeking out a little bit of extra use from an item that other people would throw away. Secondly, it reminded me of how much weight I've managed to lose over the last couple of years and has, therefore, re-affirmed my health aims for 2016. And, last but certainly not least, I saved so much money by altering my old belts, rather than buying new ones. Think at least £3 - £30, depending on the belt and all for the measly cost of £3.50 for the leather belt punch! Not bad results for such a simple project, eh?

  3. I have one of those leather punches - though mine is probably about 50 years old now - maybe more! There is something so wonderfully pleasing about punching holes in things - I even punched patterns around shoe tops and in suede-effect curtains :)
    Congrats on a healthy lifestyle too!
    Have a wonderful Wednesday - and the rest of the week too!

  4. First of all congratulations on the weight loss and secondly I know how it feels to have a new wardrobe, from time gone. I too have lost weight and it is like a whole new wardrobe has happened - I can now get in clothes I loved a few years ago.
    Enjoy your 'ends' and 'makes'

  6. Congratulations on the weight loss. Slow and steady is best and my aim for 2016. I love being able to fix things up rather than discarding them. Something I think too many people do too easily. Although it works well for me, when I find those things in the local charity shops!

  7. Congrats on the weight loss. I know how difficult it can be. I've lost weight but still have quite a bit to go. I seem to have hit a plateau that doesn't seem to be going away. I have stopped stressing about it so much and make sure I try to eat well and exercise.

  8. I too love giving favourite clothes a new life but it must be really great for you since you have lost the weight. I have to get off a few pounds myself following the holiday and Christmas. Carry on the good work x Jackie 26

  10. Marvellous gal, really. A few alterations and adjustments...the thing that surprises me is how long we tend to leave it! The story of the belts is just wonderful!

  11. WOW you have been busy! I went through my closet and removed several pieces of clothing I don't wear and it was amazing how quickly they were replaced. I tend to hoard and not get rid of anything. Have a great week and thanks for sharing. Vickie #61

  12. Thanks for calling by at mine yesterday. I had a long busy day yesterday so am having to catch up with my visits today.
    I'm seriously impressed with the busy time you've been having altering/repairing your clothes. It's what I do for my job and so many folk don't do it these days [but thankfully some do and I'm happy to do it for them ;-) ].

  13. Impressively frugal! I remember going to my Nan's as a little child for her to punch extra holes in my leather buckle up shoes - it's a nifty tool!

  14. Brilliant piece of make do and mend, except yours sounds as if it has given you practically new things again - a great and well deserved reward for all your hard efforts. I have inherited one of those punches from my Mum but not used it yet ...
