Woo! {Storytelling Sunday}

Despite reading the many, many wonderful stories that have been told as part of Storytelling Sunday at From High In The Sky, I've never managed to actually join in by telling a story of my own, but finishing off my Notts Weekend Mini Book made me think about telling the stories from that most glorious of weekends - and I have one in particular that I'd like to share.

We were at Newstead Abbey and had begun our visit in The Great Garden - a beautiful, formal garden surrounding a rectangular pond. We were strolling around the garden when The Steve spotted one of John Nost's lead statues at the bottom of a small hill. Leaving me at the top of the hill with our bags and photography equipment, he trotted off to take a closer look.

But, when he turned to come back, he saw me lying on the ground at the bottom of the hill. He ran over to check that I was okay and found me - not injured and upset - but triumphant and deliriously happy. The hill had called to me and I hadn't been able to resist.

Unable to leave without having at least one more 'mini adventure', The Steve decided that we should, at least, have a record for future generations - presumably so that they can blame their insanity their Great Grandmother's side of the family - and here's the resulting video.
If only hill rolling was an olympic sport.....

  3. Well, I would say that it should be but then, that would mean Team GB would get ANOTHER gold!

    Says the slightly disgruntled Aussie who is miffed that the mother country is doing better than us ..... nah, not really! ;-)

  4. LOL - you are a nutter!
    I have happy happy memories of hill- rolling when visiting my Granny in Southsea - it seemed a LOT bigger than your hill, but was probably just big to my smaller self!

  10. I recently thought about doing that just to show my granddaughter - that's when I realised that time and appetite mean that my hill rolling days are over..... as are the cartwheeling days too.

  14. We spent a happy afternoon convincing our kids to roll down hills at Disney Land Paris - and then they did it every time we walked back to the hotel. Great fun and lovely memory - thanks for joining in!

  15. OMG, you are too funny. I remember doing that in the front garden when i was a kid. The back garden was flat so we had to go into the front. My Mum would always say "don't get going too fast and hurt yourselves".
    Years later my DH drove me by that old house and the hill was only inches high.....LOL

  22. That is so much fun. Your story made me think of the time I showed my boys how to do it. They had never lived in a hilly area before. When we moved to Dublin we were walking distance from Phenix Park and there they have a cross on top of a big hill. I rolled down it with my two boys much to my husband horror! :-) LOL Thanks for the memories.

  24. I used to roll down the hill at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens, just like my mum before me. A year or so ago, I was joined by the next generation - my niece. There's something rather intoxicating about rolling! I think I need to go off and find a hill!
