Sensational Scraps {Rinea Foiled Paper}

Hello! Hello! If you've been following me for a while, you know that I love to make the most of my little leftovers and today, I want to share a lovely, little idea that makes the most of those small scraps of Rinea Foiled Papers that may be lying around at the end of an afternoon of crafting. We all have them and I say 'Why stow them away, when you can play?'

I've combined Blush/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper, Copper/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper and Silver/Gold Glossy Foiled Paper with a selection of other cardstock scraps from my stash - there's always a Rinea Foiled Paper that coordinates! I've then used die-cuts to make simple, stackable 'Pennants'.

To finish each Gift Tag, I've added a small embellishment, then added a hole which can be used to add ribbon or twine. So simple!

Counterfeit Die-Cuts {Forgeries On The Fourth}

I had a lot of fun with my (soon to be revealed) mini-kit for the Counterfeit Kit Challenge. At the end of the frenzied crafting session, where I used it all in one sitting, I decided to use the last few remnants to emulate some of the die-cuts, stickers and embellishments in the Main Kit.

I used stamp sets from Heidi Swapp and Neat & Tangled, both of which have a wide selection of smaller, adorable icons and sentiments. I think the envelopes are my favourite - and I can see them featuring in a Pocket Letter soon!

Head on over to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge for more Forgeries On The Fourth. It's full of inspiration this month!

Noteworthy {May's Counterfeit Kit Reveal}

It's the first of May (What?) and that means it's time for another inspiration kit from the Counterfeit Kit Challenge. If you have been following from the start of the reveal then you will have already seen some amazing kits, including one from our talented Guest Designer, Christy Strickler, and will have found your way along to me via the rather fantastic, Susan Brochu

This month, I was so inspired by this month's Counterfeit Kit Challenge inspiration kits - the March 2017 Kits from Gossamer Blue that I made a Main Kit (based on the March 2017 Life Pages Kitand a Mini Kit (based on the March 2017 Main Kit.) I love that I switched them around! Always contrary :)

As I'm 'officially' on the Mini Kit Team this month, I made that first, but I used it so quickly, that I decided to make another kit to use this month. I have my Week In The Life albums (2016 and 2017) to work on and Project Life to make a start on, now that all of my photographs have arrived!

As I like to include full 6x8 layouts in my albums, as well as Pocket Pages, I included a few sheets from the Chasing Dreams Collection by Maggie Holmes as a base. I've then added a massive selection of Pocket Life Cards, that I've been hoarding since I started my Elle's Studio Monthly Kit Subscription. In all, there's 50+ 3x4 cards and 15+ 6x4 cards!

I've included stickers from Elle's Studio, Pinkfresh and Simple Stories; my favourite stamp sets from Elle's Studio and Heidi Swapp and a massive selection of little die-cuts, cute embellishments and some washi.

Please let us know if you are inspired to play along with us this month, by linking up kits and projects in our Monthly Link Up or by sharing online with our official hashtag #counterfeitkitchallenge.

And, don't forget call back on the 4th May, when I'll be revealing some of my forgeries!

Thankful for Counterfeiting {November's Counterfeit Kit}

Hello! Hello! It's so wonderful to be back with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge after taking a little break over the summer. Life has been devoid of scrapbooking for several months (what a sad state of affairs) so it's fantastic to be playing with pretty paper once more!

If you've been following the blog-hop from the Counterfeit Kit Challenge you'll already have seen the inspiration kit in it's full autumnal glory. Rather than counterfeit the kit exactly, I wanted to recreate the 'feel' of the kit and opted for a mix of autumnal colours as a base (and included a lot of kraft, which isn't seen in the inspiration kit.)

I've echoed those colour choices in all of the embellishment choices that I've made, adding in a variety of kraft coloured die-cuts and envelopes; blue lettering; burnt orange inks and cords; and some washi tapes in blue, grey and teal. And, can I mention these amazing stickers from Love Elsie's Jack & Abby Collection? (Um, remember when Elsie Larsen was a scrapbooker? It's so, so long ago, that no-one remembers!) And those stickers have been in my stash that long. About time that I used them, right?

Balancing out those ridiculously old stickers are some new stickers, die-cuts and stamps from Elle's Studio. There's a mix of colours included, but I felt the emphasis on thankfulness and family would be wonderful for November scrapbooking (or holiday prepping!) and I was thrilled to find these little diamond stamps which are reminiscent of the red diamonds in the inspiration kit.

And that's me! It's so lovely to be back with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge. I cannot wait to see how the other members of the Design Team have been inspire, so I'm making myself a cuppa and then I'm heading on over to see Lesley's version at Oh Blog It!

Escher Effects {Counterfeit Challenge: April Challenge #3}

For this month's third challenge at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge 'Escher Effects' our Master Forger, Jemma, has challenged us all to be inspired by the work of M.C. Escher. Now, as much as I was excited by the idea, I was also a little bit terrified. Escher has been a life-long favourite of mine - with his amazing artwork, based on mathematical principles, designs which play on perspective and some tessellation which confounds the senses. (I do have to have a little bit of a 'Geek Freak' every so often!) So, I was a bit ... um ... scared of the idea - and wanted, desperately, to make something that would be worthy.

Looking through some older photographs, I spotted this image of Bridget Riley's 'Hesitate' oil on canvas, which I saw at the Tate Liverpool. Bridget Riley, with her repetitive structures, sensations of movement and abstract, but challenging landscapes, has always reminded me very much of Escher's work. The title ' Sense of Wonder' is from an Escher quote 'You have to retain a sense of wonder. That's what it's all about.' which I love.

For more Escher inspired inspiration visit the Counterfeit Challenge to see projects by our Guest Designer, Jane and our Master Forgers.

Poland Mini Album

It's time for the Challenge #3 over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge (I can't quite believe how quickly the month's are passing by, can you?) and we're incorporating little bits and bobs of everyday life into our layouts, mini-albums and mixed-media for Ephemera Encapsulated.

This month, I decided that I should work on (finally) making a mini-album about my trip to Poland in 2015 - it's only been a whole thirteen months since I went! And as a result of the challenge I've included a few little thing that might not have made their way into a mini-album otherwise.

To start, I cut bases of 3.5 x 4.5 inches, keeping all of the little off-cuts to use for layering. I didn't bother trimming any of those further, I simply layered them randomly onto the bases - then added some small photographs (2 x 3 inches) It was a really simple process, which would have been even easier had I not been working on my teeny, tiny little desk!

After layering all of the paper off-cuts and photographs, I added some machine stitching to increase the texture (and add a shabby-chic feel) and I think it lends a more 'unified' feel to the album as a whole.

Once I'd finished adding some stitching, I laid out all of the bases and chose some embellishments, stamped images or sentiments and little sparkles to add for a little extra interest and texture. Unlike my layouts, which I keep quite minimal, I love to have a lot of 'chunk' to my mini-books!

Isn't this cupcake stamp from Papermania really cute? It was the perfect accompaniment to a photograph of the amazing cakes we tried in Gdansk! Oh, how I long for some more of that apple pie and cinnamon ice cream! *swoon*

To add a little interest, I die-cut some of the bases (using a die-cut I borrowed at my local scrapbooking crop - thanks ladies!) and then mixed them in amongst the rest of the bases, along with some smaller ephemera like bus tickets and receipts.

To complete the Ephemera Encapsulated Challenge, I found some beautiful vellum (I had none in the original kit) and stitched a small envelope for a business card we collected from a local restaurant and sealed it in with some sequins. It looks amazing in real life - and the vellum looks so lovely.

I am, honestly, so thrilled to have this little album made - and it's really down to how amazingly beautiful my Parc Monceau Kit turned out to be! I never thought that harnessing some of my shabby-chic scrapbooking roots would make me so productive, but I've really enjoyed working with all of the soft, subtle colours; feminine florals and little embellishments!

I can't wait to see how this prompt was interpreted by the rest of the team over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge (and by this month's amazing Guest Designer, Louise Brooks) so I'll be making myself a morning cuppa and then sitting down for a little reading!

Little Leftovers {What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #357}

Hello! Hello! I've been out and about far too much recently and haven't been at my desk, so it's been a little while since I was last able to join in with What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday - I've been missing everyone - but, I've been back at home this week and have been enjoying the lovely light in the evenings!

I've been trying to reduce my stash of smaller scraps, so my desk is suitably covered in lots of little 'Punched' leftovers - I have stacks and stacks of hearts, butterflies, stars and circles to share out at my next scrapbooking crop. (So many, in fact, that I have a blister on my finger!)

I also have a selection of smaller scraps, which I stamp up, using some of my smaller stamps - cameras, envelopes, leaves, balloons, etc - which I'll take along to the crop to cut out while we have a cuppa and a catch up first thing. It's always nice to take something 'mindless' along!

I'm really looking forward to catching up with everyone (and seeing whether those desks have been tided - or messed up - since I last visited.) I'll see you all this evening!

Le Parc Monceau {April's Counterfeit Kit Challenge Reveal & Blog Hop}

Hello! Hello! A new month means a new 'kit to counterfeit' from the Counterfeit Kit Challenge and, after last month's minimal kit, we're working with a more 'traditional' scrapbooking kit with lots of counterfeiting opportunities! This month we're counterfeiting kits from C'est Magnifique February Kit 'Enchanted Garden'. Each of the C'est Magnifique Kit Reveals includes a Main Kit, Mixed Media Kit, Paper Add On, Flower Add On and an Embellishment Kit, so there's a lot to be inspired by this month!

If you've been following the blog-hop from the Counterfeit Kit Challenge you'll already have seen the inspiration kit - in it's full glory - and, of course, have seen the amazing kit that our Guest Designer, Louise Brooks, created. (I have seen some of the sneaks from her upcoming projects as well and, oh my, we're in for a treat this month!)

When creating my own kit (which I'm, fancily, calling Le Parc Monceau) I was hugely inspired by the floral, fleur-de-lys; newsprint; and vintage style of the inspiration kits, so started there when selecting cardstock and patterned papers. I must admit I was a little surprised by how many florals I found! I've also added in some amazingly lovely selections that remind me a little of vintage wallpapers - but in modern colours - so I have lots to work with!

To build on the 'shabby-chic' theme, and to emulate some of the items found in the Embellishment Add On, I raided my own stash of embellishments including an eclectic selection of ephemera; notecards; stickers; die-cuts; frames; doilies; buttons; bling; lace; ribbon and vellums.

Already, this selection will be causing my team-mates to keel over in shock - as I am normally very sparing with my embellishments - but I didn't stop there!

Just in frame, there at the back, there's a simply stunning floral mask that I don't use often enough, so I've included it in my kit (along with some watercolours and a small selection of mists) as a 'nod' to the Mixed Media Kit.

Finally there's a selection of smaller embellishments, all of which are bringing me so much happiness! I've included some rolled roses; crocheted doilies; twines; smaller laces; beads; charms; buttons and leaves of various kinds!

Now, I cannot wait to see how the other members of the Design Team have been inspired by the C'est Magnifique Kits, so I'm heading on over to see Jemma's version at Just Jimjams!

Kitted Out!

Recently, I shared some tips and techniques for Creating DIY Planner Kits From Your Own Stash, with Amy and Jenn over at the Planner Squad. Over the last week, I've finally had the time to sit down and make something with the kit that I created and I am thrilled with the results. Want to see?

The base for the kit was a small ring-binder, which came with some standard (rather boring dividers) which I replaced using some of the bright, colourful cardstock that I had in my kit. You'll notice that I didn't add tabs, as I like to move my dividers around when I'm bored! Normally, I'll use clips on the tops or sides of my dividers as 'bookmarks' instead.

I've added some cute notes to the dividers/dashboards - and the front pocket is the perfect size for a small set of alpha stickers, die-cuts and a few additional embellishments.

The binder is perfectly sized to hold a set of lined notecards, so after punching them all to fit, I decorated about a third of them using the craft tapes, stickers, tags and stamps from my kit. I love including a wide selection of embellishments when I make mini-albums, because I love how wonderfully fat these little beauties become when full!

This beautiful, button clip is easily my favourite item from the kit (the chevron washi from DoCrafts is a very, very close second) because it's stunning! I bought it at a local haberdashery such a long time ago, but wasn't sure how to use it. It looks so lush in the binder - and I'm thrilled to have found the perfect spot for it!

I'll be using the rest of the kit to decorate the remaining notecards, but I think I'll also end up using some of it for cards (it's such a bright, happy mix of colours!) So, I've stored some of the more substantial cardstock and embellishments in the little binders that I use for 'Keeping Kits' and there's a small selection in the binder, to use 'as and when'.

I'm really looking forward to using the binder - and am wondering whether I might use it as the basis for a small mini-album all about my planning obsession! Watch this space!

Keeping Kits {Plan With Me}

Over the last few weeks, the team at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge have been sharing some of their most Stylish Scrapbook Storage. Having talked a lot recently about Creating Kits, I thought that it might also be worthwhile to talk about how I keep them!

I'll usually have two or three Counterfeit Kits in use during the month (using the current kit and working ahead on projects for the next reveal.) When I was working with substantially smaller kits, this worked well. I could 'kill a kit' successfully, then move a new kit into the box I had been using to store it all.

However, at the end of January, I still had a box full of lovely, luscious product from the Planning For Perfection Kit and, having created a kit that continues to inspire me, I didn't want to break it down and 're-home' it all with the rest of my stash.

I was also still working with my kit for Document December (in fact, I am *still* working with my kit for Document December) but, it was nearly time to start working with a new kit for February. I desperately needed a storage solution that would allow me to keep all of the lovely leftovers from each kit in one space before I became overwhelmed with boxes, envelopes and dishes full of kit leftovers!

Eventually, I found the Wilko A5 Binder, a frosted/clear binder, which comes with a small exercise book, five dividers and four 'ziplock style' envelopes. Once full, four envelopes are perfect for the size of the binder, so I removed the exercise book and dividers and I'll no doubt use them in another project sometime soon.

 I needed two envelopes for the leftovers from the Planning For Perfection Kit!

The clear envelopes make it really easy to find the kit that I want to work with and their 'ziplock' style keeps everything secure. The size of the binder also means that it's easy to store in my craft room and, as a bonus, is easily transported to my local scrapbooking club. I love taking my kits with me - it makes it so much easier to plan and pack!

I am thrilled to have found a solution that works and have, obviously, been back to buy a few more of these little lovelies! I can't wait to see them fill up with lots of little leftovers!

Head on over to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge to see more Stylish Scrapbook Storage solutions that work for the team!

That Messy Inbetween Stage {What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday #352}

Well, hello there What's On Your Work Desk Wednesday folks! Unusually, I have an 'inbetween' shot of my desk looking messy this morning, because I haven't had chance to catch up (or clean up) after working on several things at once over the weekend.

On the left-hand side there's two new little binders, which I use to store all of the leftovers from my counterfeit kits and behind them, a small stack of scraps which have been stamped on. I'll be taking those to my local scrapbooking club in a week or two! I find that stamping onto my scraps at the end of a crafting sessions means that I use up the smaller scraps more effectively - and cutting them out at the crop means I can be productive but still have a nice old natter with the ladies!

In the centre is a small kit box, containing the kit that I made up for my article 'Creating A DIY Planner Kit From Your Own Stash' which is now live on the Planner Squad. I've been using it this weekend, so check back later in the week when I'll be sharing how I've used it!

Behind the kit box, is a stack of chocolate wrappers (I ate them all and they were delicious!) which I'm saving for 'something' because I hate waste and, finally, on the right-hand side is my tool box - which currently appears to be sat *on* all of the tools, instead of keeping them all in one place!

I'll need to clear everything off the desk before I can start on new stuff this week - I'm really looking forward to making a start on my March Counterfeit Kit. What are you looking forward to working on this week?

Visit Stamping Ground for more information on What's On Your Workdesk Wednesday.

March Kit Reveal & Blog Hop {Counterfeit Kit Challenge}

It's March! Already?! A new month means a new inspirational 'kit to counterfeit' from The Counterfeit Kit Challenge and this month our inspiration is the 'Click' Story Kit from Ali Edwards. It's definitely not a 'traditional' scrapbooking kit, with no scrapbook papers, or cardstock, and an emphasis on pocket-style scrapbooking instead! The colour combination is lovely, but unusual - Green, Turquoise, Orange, White and Grey - and there's an obvious camera/photography theme (which I seem to have completely ignored when putting together my kit!)

I have a lot of camera/photography cardstock, stamps, charms, die-cuts, stickers and pocket style cards, I could have taken the easy route and used the theme as the basis for my kit. But, no, I have to make it difficult for myself and instead, I decided that I wanted to use the colours, as much I could, as the basis for my counterfeiting.

Knowing that I don't have (and never really have had) a lot of cardstock or patterned papers in the main colours of Green and Orange, I started with the embellishments and had a lot of success! I found a lot of charms, clips, stamped images, die-cuts, twine, ribbons, buttons and brads! I have an absolute haul of embellishments and I'm a little bit excited, because I don't normally add so many decorative elements to my kits!

I also found several sheets of Simple Stories Alphas in Lime, Orange and Turquoise and added them to the kit, along with a sheet of Black Alphas from Echo Park and some Sentiment Thickers from American Crafts.

I liked the Black with the Green, Orange and Turquoise so much, that I decided to use Black and White, rather than Grey and White as the 'base' of the kit. None of the cardstock is a 'full sheet' - it's all come from the scrap basket, as did the amazing 'super-find' of the Green Polka Dot Acetate!

Finally, to add a little bit more fun to the kit, I found a little stack of envelopes and a handful of Black and White Polka Dot Bags (which I normally use for my etsy store packaging!) I think both are full of potential!

Now, I'm excited to see what the rest of the Master Forgers and our Guest Designer Lesley have included in their own kits - I have a feeling that this is going to be a very eclectic set of kits! I'm hopping to Jemma at Just Jimjams who's next in line (but feel free to start at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge!)

Creating Kits {Counterfeit Kit Challenge: November Challenge #3)

We are 'December Planning' over at the Counterfeit Kit Challenge for November Challenge #3 so today I'm going to share the inspiration for one of the kits I'll be using this December, along with some tips and techniques for creating a wintertime kit that doesn't include excessive amounts of themed scrapbooking supplies.

1. Start With What You Have: Although I don't have a massive selection of themed supplies I knew that I would have some in my stash so I went searching and instead of starting with cardstock - where I knew themed items would be in short supply - I went straight to my embellishments. I found some Elle's Studio die-cuts; Snowflake Charms and ... well, that was it! So, it was time to ...

2. Get Creative: The Elle's Studio die-cuts were all in shades of turquoise, pink, brown, cream and white - so this, along with the silver of my snowflake charm, became the colour scheme for my kit. I then added more embellishments with more die-cuts, charms, labels, buttons and resin flowers. I also went hunting through my cupboards and found some amazing decorations that will work as embellishments - adding in a small 'sleigh bell', icicle and super sparkly snowflake.

3. Decide On Your Project: I knew that I wanted to make a mini-album that I could use for December's Listers Gotta List Challenge. Choosing to work in a smaller size meant that, rather than raiding my stash for full size sheets of cardstock, I raided the scrap basket instead.  To start with, I chose scraps that matched my colour scheme and then whittled them down to include only those that were at least 4in x 4in.

For a unified kit, I cut down each of the scraps to 4in x 4in (keeping all of the offcuts that this created) and then rounded the corners of each sheet of cardstock.

4. Create Your Own Embellishments: I'll be using some of the off-cuts, along with my favourite stamp sets, to create some co-ordinating embellishments for my kit. Think little banners, cute cupcakes and holiday sentiments. Perfect.

5. Seek Other Sources of Inspiration: I'm hoping that I've inspired you to create your own kit but if you need extra inspiration head on over to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge where the team will be sharing their own tips and techniques for creating a kit from scratch!

Southern Adventure - A Work In Progress

Look! Actual scrapbooking! It know that it really doesn't look like much, please believe me when I tell you that this small selection of pretty papers - cut to size and slotted into place in an album - is evidence of real progress. I have been busily working on an album of the 'Southern Adventure' - a three week trip around the South Coast of England - that my parents took in May/June 2009.

It's been a labour of love. Not only because of the sheer amount of photographs, leaflets, tourist information brochures, receipts and postcards that my parents accumulated on their travels; but also because - this was their last adventure together before mum passed away in 2010. For a very long time, the idea of starting on this album was overwhelming - and, as the photograph below represents only half of the material I had to work with - I'm sure you can understand why!

Slowly, but surely, I've spent the month sorting. Sorting into usable and unusable, then sorting into counties visited, then sorting into date order. This became a whole lot easier when I found my father's handwritten notes and a rough itinerary tucked inside an envelope.

Currently, I've inserted two counties (out of five) worth of photographs, hand-written notes and memorabilia into the album and, alongside, I've started to fill in the blank spaces using materials from Soft Sunshine, my Counterfeit Kit for April. There isn't much embellishment at the moment - sorting took a lot more time that I would have expected - but I have included 'embellishment suggestions' in each little pocket!

It's a work in progress, but I am thrilled to have made such an amazing start on the album and I'll be continuing my efforts in May - no doubt inspired by the next Counterfeit Kit. With any luck, it will be finished in time for me to hand it over to my dad on my parents' wedding anniversary at the beginning of July. Wouldn't that be wonderful?

Soft Sunshine {April's Counterfeit Kit}

The inspiration for this month's Counterfeit Kit Challenge was a little bit different, with the team using Case File #112 from CSI: Color, Stories, Inspiration as the basis for their own kit choices! I immediately loved the bright and breezy colour scheme - it's absolutely perfect for spring - and the dreamy, softness of the inspiration 'scene.'

I've chosen a selection of 6x6 papers from Dear Lizzy, Studio Calico, Sodalicious and Prima, with a few additional scraps of cardstock in white, kraft, light blue and aqua. I also found a scrap of cardstock leftover from an experiment with my spray inks, so I threw it in for good measure! Somehow, I managed to veer away from the original colour scheme - adding a considerable amount of pink into the mix. But, I like it, so what does it matter?

The CSI Case File also lists some suggestions - evidence - for adding embellishments and/or textures. I tried to keep them in mind while sorting through some of my stash and have added some cute, little resin flowers; leaves, vintage style die-cuts and some 'frame' style stickers.

To complete my kit, I've added an absolute ton of letter stickers in a variety of co-ordinating colours and sizes - including my (discontinued - sob!) favourites from Sassafras. It was nice to find something in that beautiful, deep teal colour from the original 'scene'.

I'm hoping to work on a 'Pocket Style' album and some mini-cards this month, what will you be using your Counterfeit Kit for?

Autumn Glow {November's Counterfeit Kit}

It might seem a little late in the month to be joining in with the Counterfeit Kit Challenge but, actually, I'm thrilled to be joining in at any point this month! It's been a long, long time since I was last able to join in with the Master Forgers because, sometimes, life just becomes stupidly busy!

So, this month, I'm keeping it small and simple - with a mini-album kit inspired by the October Papercrafting Kit and October Artisan Kit from Jenni Bowlin. What struck me the most when I first caught sight of the Inspiration Kits was the beautiful, rich colours. Hues of mustard, brown and green, combined with hints of navy blue. It had me thinking of autumn walks in the countryside, with bright blue skies overhead and crunchy leaves underfoot - and it's this feeling that I tried to emulate with my own kit - Autumn Glow.

Knowing that I wanted to make a mini-album, I decided to start rummaging through my over-flowing basket of scrap patterned papers and cardstock. I started by pulling out papers that reminded me of the inspiration kits - whether by colour or pattern - and then cut them down to 'mini-pages' of 3 x 5 inches. I like to round the corners of my mini-albums, so I do that at this stage too - so that it's ready to go as soon as I have some photographs printed.

You'll see that there's not really many papers in green or navy - but if you're rummaging through scraps, it's worth having an open mind about what to include. I am happy though, that I was able include lots of pattern and texture - and I adore that little piece of embossed feather paper from American Crafts!

I've added to my mini-pages with embellishments that continue the colours and textures of my kit. I found these Spring Colour Hemp Cords, which match my colour choices perfectly - and a random selection of stamped elements, die-cuts and bling. I also included alphas from October Afternoon, Sassafras and American Crafts - even finding a set of Thickers in a navy blue. Result! I'm not sure whether they'll be a little too large for the mini-album, but I'm keeping them on hand, just in case.

I'm hoping to make a start on my mini-album this weekend, when I'll be visiting my local scrapbooking crop but, in the meantime, I'm going to pop back over to the Counterfeit Kit Challenge to look for more inspiration.
